From the paper’s abstract: “The present paper addresses the study about one of the paths that architecture can follow in contemporaneity: the construction of interactive spaces. Through research, literature review and the analysis of significant projects, the creation of a theoretical frame is sought, approaching what constitutes the construction of such spaces, especially on what comes to the utilization of digital technology, its context and how it becomes real. As a mean of study, it was also developed an experimental project, a pavilion, aiming to demonstrate and explore the specificities and characteristics of the projective process of such architecture. In conclusion, questions and considerations around the addressed theme are raised, allowing a reflection on the paths that architecture follows in contemporaneity and might continue to follow in the future.”

The interior of the Pavilion is defined by the repetition of porticos which interior surfaces modifies itself according to the position and movement of users/objects inside. This behaviour establishes the building’s interactive aspect and is allowed by flexible elements fixed to pneumatic pistons distributed along the porticos, as well as distance sensors that capture and record the movement inside the space.

The behaviour was defined and tested through an algorithm developed with Parametric Design techniques applied with the use of visual programming software (Dynamo + Revit). From such algorithm and a digital model, many possible configurations and behaviours were simulated and tested to achieve the proper result based on the initial design intent.
